Joanne March
Joanne March is a beloved artist whose passion for creativity has spanned decades. Her art journey began under the guidance of Mr. K, the Antigo art teacher, after the birth of her last child. Although her early artistic pursuits were interrupted by the demands of raising a family, Joanne’s passion for art was reignited after she and her husband, Pete March, both retired. It was during this time that she discovered the joy of basket weaving under the mentorship of Shirley Boudry. Over the next 30 years, Joanne immersed herself in this craft, enjoying both the process and the community it fostered.
Twenty years ago, after the passing of her husband, Joanne returned to painting, focusing on acrylics, and rediscovered the deep fulfillment that art brings. With the support and guidance of her daughter, Sue, a fellow art teacher, Joanne has continued to evolve as an artist. Now at the age of 92, she approaches her art with a sense of joy and playfulness, experimenting with techniques that are both shortcuts and creative challenges. Joanne believes that art is a lifelong journey, full of fun and discovery, and she continues to share her vibrant creations with the community.
Joanne’s dedication to her craft has earned her several accolades, including a prestigious state award. Her work was featured at the Association of Wisconsin Artists (AWA) State Conference in 2024, a recognition of her artistic excellence. Additionally, Joanne has won numerous awards at the Antigo Visual Arts Gallery at LCHS, further highlighting her contribution to the local art scene.
